How fast can you do setups or other small repairs?

48 hours is usually enough for everyday setups and small repairs like jack replacements.

If a repair or setup turns into a bigger job (e.g. your frets need significant relevelling or replacement) then it might take longer.

We’ll always contact you before doing anything major to make sure you’re OK with any added time or costs involved.

Where can I drop off my guitar?

Please drop your instrument off at:

The Guitar Centre at the Gabba
915 Stanley St East
East Brisbane

I pick up and drop off instruments every day.

Can I bring my guitar in for a free check or diagnosis?

Of course! Just bring your guitar down to the Guitar Centre at the Gabba and one of the helpful staff will be ready, willing and able to take a look – free of charge.

Nearly all of the staff at the Guitar Centre are working musos and have seen literally thousands of guitars come in for repairs, so they’ll be able to give you a good first opinion.

Can I talk to Raymond in person?

Yes, but because he’s usually hard at work in his workshop, you’ll have to come in on a Saturday morning to catch him.

If you really want to discuss your guitar with Raymond, please be sure to call ahead and let us know you’re coming in so he can ensure he’s there!

How does your pricing work?

We have a standard price list for most general repairs and setups.

Any additional time or specialist repairs will be charged at an hourly rate, plus the cost of any parts required.

If the service you want isn’t on our price list, please contact Raymond to discuss price.

Can you teach me how to do my own repairs?

The short answer is we’d rather not.

This is a bit of a double-edged sword. Most advanced guitarists will have learnt how to do basic setups and even repairs, but it generally takes a long time to gain this kind of knowledge.

The honest truth is that we get a lot of guitars that people have made worse by attempting DIY fixes, so we urge you not to try to perform your repairs unless you are already a competent guitar tech, woodworker or solderer.

Do you do refinishing?

We used to, but unless it comes with another service, e.g. neck repairs or custom builds, we don’t usually do refinishing.

This is mainly because of time and cost. Even a small chip in a guitar body can quickly add up to several hundred dollars of Raymond’s time, as it generally takes several cycles of sanding, lacquering and buffing to get an as-new finish.

My guitar is pretty inexpensive. Is it worth setting it up?

Absolutely!

Probably the best thing you can do to improve an inexpensive guitar is to get it set up by a pro! It’ll play better than a more costly guitar would off the rack, and it’ll help you play better.

Do you repair amps?

We don’t repair amps ourselves, but the Guitar Centre at the Gabba has a pick-up and drop-off service with Brisbane’s most respected amp tech and builder. Call the Guitar Centre on 3392 3821 for more information.
